What makes this place important?
What items did you choose to represent you? What does each one represent? I chose my varsity letter because I have played softball for as long as I can remember and last year I made the varsity team which is one of my greatest accomplishments. I included the necklace that I wear everyday. It has a silver heart that was once my mother's and also has a jade stone. This is special to me because my name was suppose to be Jade. I picked my Jeep key because my Jeep is my first vehicle ever and it has gotten me through the past years. Lastly, I chose a Germany magnet. Over the summer I went to Germany and on this trip I really got to know who I am as a person and what I want out of my life. The trip was life changing and one I will remember forever. What do you find most successful about your piece and what might you change? I really liked how the background formed and how the black lines around the varsity letter popped. I truly love everything about this painting the only thing I would change is the process. When I was creating my colors I did not make enough of each, which meant I had to go back and try to match the color that was already on my canvas. Next time I will make a lot of the same color to ensure it is there for touchups. What medium did you pick and why? I chose acrylic for this piece and honestly it was through elimination on what I wanted to use on my other project. I knew I really wanted water color on the other project therefore this one got the acrylic. My mentor is Sami Heuman. She has been through Art 1,2, and 3, when she graduates she hopes to go to ECU and become an interior designer. With this mentor/mentee relationship she hopes to have another bud and to share what she has learned so far in her art career. Her website is sami-apex-2017.weebly.com
This warm up helped me the most because of the medium I chose to use in my piece. Learning how to shade and make colors look darker through the use of other colors allowed me to add more life to my drawing with the shadow. I posted my inspiration on my pinterest, https://www.pinterest.com/jessica61199/twoone/
What did you morph and why? I morphed a snail and a flower, making the flower the snail’s shell. I was inspired to do this by all the two in one pictures I saw that involved animals. I chose a snail because I thought it would be easy, I was wrong. I chose a flower because that is my go to drawing, when I am doodling I always draw a rough flower. Process: I started by sketching a normal snail then I drew a flower over its shell. I started with round petals and those did not look good so I decided to do the shape I did. At first I wanted to make the snail more of a fun cartoon but the shading of the cartoon just was not working so I decided to go for a more realistic snail. I drew two sketches, the first one was with round petals and weird looking cartoon snail. The second sketch is the one I based my final piece on with more shape to the petals and a non cartoon snail. What do you find most successful and what might you change? I thought my shading of the snail was really good, at first I was unsure about how to make parts dark and some parts light. I was able to look at a picture of a snail and grasp the shading. I also believe the colored pencil popped really nicely, it makes the drawing stand out more. That being said one thing I would change is the use of the colored pencil. Though it’s effect is pretty it is not complete and it was impossible to complete it. The colored pencil did not cover all the white, I went over the same spot multiple times and each time there would still be some white pushing through. I also did not enjoy the contrast of a really fake looking flower along with a boring more real looking snail. I think I would have rather made the snail a cartoon or made the flower more realistic. Before this warm up I was unaware of how to make the same color pencil look like a darker shade. I learned that by adding more lines to different parts I am able to make it look darker. |
